What is Rotary?
Rotary International is an organization made up of approximately 1.2 million business and professional men and women in some 30,000 clubs in 160 countries whose efforts make significant contributions to the quality of life in their individual communities as well as around the world. Rotary clubs are incorporated into geographic districts which are led by volunteer leaders and help local clubs.
Guided by the motto, “Service Above Self,” and the 4-Way Test, each club works to achieve goals in four service areas: Community, Club, International, and Vocational.
The Branford Rotary Club was chartered in 1928 and has a solid history of humanitarian and community service and leadership in Branford and along the shoreline. The club will celebrate its 75th anniversary in the fall of 2003.
What does the Branford Rotary Club do?
Through a variety of programs and fundraising efforts, the Branford Rotary Club contributes to worthy community groups, helps students experience the importance and value of community service through the high school Interact Club, awards scholarships through the Branford High School, and puts in significant member time and effort to make a difference in and around Branford.
The club also supports the overall goals of Rotary International - including the current major commitment to help eradicate polio worldwide.
We do this through a variety of activities:
The Rotary tent at the annual Branford Festival is our major fundraising effort. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to hundreds of people, and conduct the Branford Rotary Foundation book sale.
Holiday bell ringing helps to support the efforts of the Salvation Army.
The Senior Dinner provides food and cheer to Branford’s elderly during the holiday season.
The annual Rotary Auction raises money to support local and global projects in an evening of fun and fellowship.
In recent years, Branford Rotary Club volunteers have made a big difference through hands-on projects including:
Renovating the Branford Volunteer Services Center
Landscaping at Branford Point
